Les échecs constituent pour le mathématicien un champ d'investigation tout à la fois fascinant et très difficile. Par ailleurs, tout au long de l'histoire depuis des siècles, bon nombre de joueurs d'échecs, plus ou moins grands, se sont intéressés aux mathématiques, en particulier par les problèmes mathématiques en relation avec les échecs. Ainsi, nous intéressant à la théorie des échecs il est clair qu'il va nous falloir réfléchir sérieusement aux relations entre Échecs et Mathématiques.
