Alexander Morozevich is a Russian Grandmaster. Morozevich was born in Moscov, Russia on July 18, 1977. Among his most notable results are 7.5/10 at the 2000 Chess Olympiad, winning Bronze Medal for board 2 and reaching a rating performance of more than 2800. Morozevich reached the score of 7/11 at the 2002 Olympiad. In 2002, Alexander Morozevich was the winner of the Amber Blindfold and Rapid Chess Tournament with 15 points on 22; he won again this competition in 2004 (shared with Kramnik) and 2006 (shared with Anand). Morozevich won also the Biel International Chess Festival Tournament three times: in 2003, 2004 and 2006; and the Russian Chess Championship twice, in 1998 and 2007. Alexander Morozevich is one of the best chess players in the world for nearly a decade. He is famous for employing unusual openings for example, against the Queen's Gambit, Chigorin Defence (1. d4 d5 2. c4 Nc6), and more recently the Albin Countergambit (1.d4 d5 2.c4 e5); both systems are hardly ever seen at the top level. He is also well known for preferring complicated rather than clear positions. Due to his risky and spectacular style which produces relatively few draws Morozevich is popular among chess fans. At this subject, GM Alexander Baburin says: "Undoubtedly Alexander is one of the most interesting players in modern chess. His aggressive and uncompromising style, unusual opening repertoire and interesting personality have won him lots of fans among the chess public..." Since April 2006 Alexander Morozevich is permanently in the FIDE rating TOP 10, but has never won the World Chess Championship. In spite of his brilliant perforformances Alexander Morozevich has never reached the first position in the FIDE-ratings list; betwen April 2006 and January 2009, is ranked from 9th to 2nd place. With a Rating of 2771, in the FIDE-ratings list of January 2009, Morozevich is currently number 5 in the world and the third best ranked player taking part in the Corus Chess 2009.
