Yue Wang is a brilliant Chinese Grandmaster, whose progression, since a few years, has been impressive. Wang was born on March 12, 1987 in Taiyuan, China, where, at the age of six, he learned how to play (western) Chess. Yue Wang was still anonymous when, in 1999, he won the under-12 category of the World Youth Chess Championship in Oropesa del Mar, Spain. In 2000, equally in Oropesa del Mar, Yue Wang took the second place in the U-14 category tournament. Always in 2000, when Wang was 13 he achieved the FIDE Master title. In 2003, he achieved the International Master title, and in 2004 he was awarded with the Grandmaster title. In April 2004, at the Chinese Men's Team Championships in Jinan, Yue Wang reached the score of 9/11 and on December 2005, in Beijing, China, he became the National Chess Champion of China with a score of 12.5/18. In 2005, Wang came the third place, with a score of 6.5/11, at the 2nd Sanjin International Hotel GM Cup in Taiyuan, and he was equally third, with 6.5/9, at the 5th Asian Individual Championship in Hyderabad, India. The same year he attained the 5th place at the World Junior Chess Championship in Istanbul, and reached the second round of the FIDE World Cup. In September (13th - 18th) 2006, at the 7th Lausanne Young Masters, Wang came second after having lost against Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (FRA) the winner. In October 2006, Wang scored 8.5/13, and was sixth, at the World Junior Championship in Yerevan, Armenia. Performances of Grand Master Yue Wang in 2007 are impressive: in February, joint second, with 6.5/9, at the Aeroflot Open in Moscow; in March, winner of the Calvi Open (FRA), with 6/7, and of the Cappelle la Grande Tournament (FRA) on tie-break, ahead of five other players with 7/9 points and a performance rating of 2784; in April 2007, he won the Philippines International Open Chess Championship, in Subic Bay Freeport Zone scoring 7/9 points; in July 2007, he took second place with 5/8 at the 4th Sanjin Hotel Cup in Taiyuan. On November, at the FIDE World Cup 2007 in Khanty-Mansiysk, Yue Wang defeated Aleksei Pridorozhni, Sergei Tiviakov and his compatriot Bu Xiangzhi, but was eliminated, in the fourth round, by Ivan Cheparinov. Finally, in December at Pamplona 2007, Wang attained the second place on tiebreak at the Category 17 XVII Ciudad de Pamplona (Magistral A) tournament in Spain. At the Reykjavík Open, in March 2008, Yue Wang finished shared first together with Wang Hao, equally from China, who won on tiebreak, and Hannes Stefansson. Wang is competing in the FIDE Grand Prix 2008-2009, which is part of current World Chess Championship cycle. In this super-tournament debut in April-May 2008 at the 1st FIDE Grand Prix in Baku, Yue Wang reached first place jointly with Vugar Gashimov and Magnus Carlsen, on the score 8/13 (+3,=10,-0) and with a performance rating of 2806. In July-August 2008, at the 2nd FIDE Grand Prix in Sochi, he took third place with Gata Kamsky, scoring 7.5/13 (+2, =11, -0) behind Levon Aronian, the winner of this event, and Teimour Radjabov. On August 20-30, 2008 in Amsterdam, Wang won the NH Chess Tournament— "Rising Stars". As the winner of the Rising Star tournament, Wang won an invitation to the March 2009 Amber Blindfold and Rapid Tournament in Nice (FRA), and immediately after having won all of his first six games, he was invited by Jeroen van den Berg to Group A in the January 2009 Corus Chess Tournament. ************
