  • Round No1
  • :
All games of the top group were drawn, excepted that Teimours Radjabov, beginning very strong, beat Loek van Wely with Black. We have selected here the two following games:

      Karjakin, Sergey (2678) - Kramnik, Vladimir (2766)
    ½-½ (D89), Corus, Wijk aan Zee (NED) (1), 2007
Van Wely, Loek (2683) - Radjabov, Teimour (2729)
    0-1 (E97), Corus, Wijk aan Zee (NED) (1), 2007

  • Round No2
  • :
«Classical Bloodbath in Wijk Aan Zee!» is the title chosen by the Official Corus Chess 2007 site for its report of round 2. Effectively many games were strongly engaged and rather agressive, leading sometimes to an indisputable victory of one of both players. In particular, Topalov, versus van Wely with White, registered his first victory. We may also notice the Kramnik's easy win over the Spanish grandmaster Alexei Shirov.

      Kramnik, Vladimir (2766) - Shirov, Alexei (2715)
    1-0 (A16), Corus, Wijk aan Zee (NED) (2), 2007

  • Round No3
  • :
Many significant results were registered in this third round. Teymour Radjabov obtain a new success with his famous King's Indian Defense, this time against the hapless Alexei Shirov. Ruslan Ponomariov, developing a faultless strategy beat Magnus Carlsen in a Slav new style (see the game below). We notice equally the Najdorf (B90): Sergey Karjakin vs Veselin Topalov ½-½.

      Ponomariov, Ruslan (2733) - Carlsen, Magnus (2690)
    1-0 (D15), Corus, Wijk aan Zee (NED) (3), 2007

  • Round No4
  • :
Like is said in the ChessBase report of the round 4: "A marathon 75-move game between the tournament leader Teimour Radjabov and Dutch GM Sergey Tiviakov ended with a victory for the Azerbaijani, who maintained his lead in the table...". We propose you a complet analysis of this game and also of the brilliant Topalov's victory against Alexei Shirov.

      Topalov, Veselin (2783) - Shirov, Alexei (2715)
    1-0 (D89), Corus, Wijk aan Zee (NED) (4), 2007
      Radjabov, Teimour (2729) - Tivlakov, Sergey (2682)
    1-0 (B35), Corus, Wijk aan Zee (NED) (4), 2007

  • Round No5
  • :
A magnificent round in particular for Radjabov, Anand and van Wely, which win brilliantly their games. Vishy Anand does not have always been fortunate in Corus Chess 2007!... Also we focalize our attention on his victory versus Peter Svidler.

      Anand, Viswanathan (2779) - Svidler, Peter (2728)
    1-0 (C88), Corus, Wijk aan Zee (NED) (5), 2007

  • Round No6
  • :
The main event of this round is certainly the convincing World Chess Champion's victory against Viswanathan Anand.

      Kramnik, Vladimir (2766) - Anand, Viswanathan (2779)
    1-0 (C88), Corus, Wijk aan Zee (NED) (6), 2007

  • Round No7
  • :
In Corus 2007, facing the very high level of his adversaries, the young chess prodigy Magnus Carlsen meets some difficulties to express his will to win. But, we are sure this unkindly experience of the failure will be profitable to him in the future.

      Carlsen, Magnus (2690) - Svidler, Peter (2779)
    0-1 (C88), Corus, Wijk aan Zee (NED) (7), 2007

  • Round No8
  • :
We are never disappointed by Corus Chess 2007! During the beginning of this exceptional tournament many outstanding events happen. But, it is specially wise to notice the brilliant start of four players: Topalov, V (2783, +109), Radjabov, T (2729, +121), Aronian, L (2744, +67) and Karjakin, S (2678, +124). Now, Chess-Theory propose you to follow carefully the game Topalov-Anand:

      Topalov, Veselin (2783) - Anand, Viswanathan (2779)
    1-0 (E15), Corus, Wijk aan Zee (NED) (8), 2007

  • Round No9
  • :
Among the most interesting games in this transitory round, we propose you to examine the following:

Anand, Viswanathan (2779) - Van Wiely, Loek (2683)
    1-0 (B97), Corus, Wijk aan Zee (NED) (9), 2007

  • Round No10
  • :
Whereas we are coming near the end of this famous tournament, positions on the TOP of the table seems to be stabilized:

  • 1) Topalov, Veselin (2783 + 112)
  • 2) Radjabov, Teimour (2729 + 91)
  • 3) Aronian, Levon (2744 + 51)
  • 4) Anand, Viswanathan (2779 + 8)
  • 5) Kramnik, Vladimir (2766 + 13)

  • Veselin Topalov, playing with White against the young Magnus Carlsen, wins easily... But Magnus, in this Ragozin variation, experiments with a risqued sacrifice to take the initiative.

      Topalov, Veselin (2783) - Carlsen, Magnus (2690)
    1-0 (D38), Corus, Wijk aan Zee (NED) (10), 2007

  • Round No11
  • :
We may observe that positions on the TOP of the table is narrowed, with only a point between Topalov the first and Kramnik the fifth, in the temporary ranking:

  • 1) Topalov, Veselin (2783 + 56)   -   7,5/11
  • 2) Aronian, Levon (2744 + 73)   -   7,0/11
  • 3) Svidler, Peter (2728 + 93)   -   7,0/11
  • 4) Radjabov, Teimour (2729 + 85)   -   7,0/11
  • 5) Kramnik, Vladimir (2766 + 8)   -   6,5/11

  • Veselin Topalov, playing with Black against the Russian GM Peter Svidler, loses the opportunity of a new win and finally suffers his first defeat in Corus Chess 2007!

      Svidler, Peter (2728) - Topalov, Veselin (2783)
    1-0 (B90), Corus, Wijk aan Zee (NED) (11), 2007

  • Round No12
  • :
Only one round before the end of this tournament, positions on the TOP of the table are always strangely narrowed:

  • 1) Topalov, Veselin (2783 + 48)   -   8,0/12
  • 2) Radjabov, Teimour (2729 + 102)   -   8,0/12
  • 3) Aronian, Levon (2744 + 64)   -   7,5/12
  • 4) Kramnik, Vladimir (2766 + 9)   -   7,0/12
  • 5) Svidler, Peter (2728 + 50)   -   7,0/12
  • 6) Anand, Viswanathan (2779 - 7)   -   7,0/12

  • Teimour Radjabov, playing again (with Black) the King's Indian Defense, against Alexander Motylev, obtains a new brilliant success in Corus Chess 2007!!... This game deserves now all our attention:

      Motylev, Alexander (2647) - Radjabov, Teimour (2729)
    0-1 (E92), Corus, Wijk aan Zee (NED) (12), 2007

  • Round No13
  • :
This is the last round and the end of the Corus Chess 2007! At the TOP of the final standings we find:

  • 1) Aronian, Levon (2744 + 82)   -   8,5/13
  • 2) Topalov, Veselin (2783 + 40)   -   8,5/13
  • 3) Radjabov, Teimour (2729 + 98)   -   8,5/13
  • 4) Kramnik, Vladimir (2766 + 29)   -   8,0/13

  • Sergey Karjakin beats, with Black, Peter Svidler, in a variation of the Sicilian, Najdorf (B90), although the Russian GM is a specialist of this one... Less spectacular is the relatively conventional draw, by application of the three times repetition rule, between Veselin Topalov and the young prodigy Teimour Radjabov!

      Svidler, Peter (2728) - Karjakin, Sergey (2678)
    0-1 (B90), Corus, Wijk aan Zee (NED) (13), 2007
      Radjabov, Teimour (2729) - Topalov, Veselin (2783)
    ½-½ (E08), Corus, Wijk aan Zee (NED) (13), 2007
