All game, all sport, all human activity expresses himself and comes to reality through space and time. How believe Chess could escape from this universal contingency?
Only 64 squares of the chessboard constitute spacial bounds of our favorite game. Pieces are arranged in an original position ; each of them, montionless, at this right place, in the middle of a square. Other empty squares establish a strange contrast which this inhabited ones, fascinating us. So contemplate now this fossilized representation, which isn't not yet a sight scene, a show. But our imagination, because we are enthusiastic chess players, soon inscribes this effigy, this chromo, this backdrop in a movement's prospect.
Effectively what are we thinking watching a chess position? Is it just a piece juxtaposition, an erudite problemist composition or a contrario an effective chess game position? Who is first going to play? Which are strenghts and weakness of each camp? What strategy will be chosen by each opponent? What is the right move? Do a winning combination exist? Is a brillancy sacrifice conceivable?... and finally, which will be the result?... Still better now: a chess player grabs White and another Black. There they are face to face, playing alternatively their antagonist moves. The game become real. Then, the chessboard comes to life and vibrates until the clash!
Suddenly the scene becomes a show. Quiet positions, on the chessboard, promptly make way for tense situations. A drama takes shape, is hanging in the balance, ends. This is Life, under all its facets, inexorably engraved into the 64 squares of the chessboard. But, what is really Life, otherwise Space geting out of shape and contorting itself at the mercy of the inflexible walk of Time ?...
Such truly is the ruthless magy of Time, stimulating pictures sequences and breathing them Life.
