CHESS THEORY :
Hello Serge! I enjoy you have accepted my invitation and by the
way you are the first personality of the Chess World to undergo a
lot of questions from CT!
Serge PICARD :
Hello Michel!...
CHESS THEORY :
We'll have effectively many subjects to tackle, without neglect the
"CHAUMONT CHESS 2000" Chess Club which will be certainly a major
one!... But I would like first speak about you... Do you agree to say
us some words about your youth and naturally to explain us how you have
discovered Chess ?
Serge PICARD :
I was born on october 7, in 1957, (St Serge's day), rue de la
pitié (I'm not making anything up) 3.550kg, 50cm, in Joinville (52);
hence recently 47 years. I am the father of a 20 years old great boy
(Arnaud) and a charming 15 years old girl (Angélique). Do be impartial
with adjectives since they are my childrens. All this family is
leaded by my wife Frédérique ...
CHESS THEORY :
By a master's hand I presume!
Serge PICARD :
Like you say ... and she endures me since more than 22 years (it's
true). Frédérique isn't a dictator, but we have to be realistic...
She supports me effectively since more than 22 years !
CHESS THEORY :
Oh! Don't worry Serge! I am sure it wasn't so difficult!...
But, if you want, talk us more about your childhood.
Serge PICARD :
Normal but overactive childhood (I was a very very boisterous
children: an anecdote, my primary school teacher, some years
later, was very surprise to observe like I was able to stay
motionless, during hours, facing a chessboard)... Studies in
technical fields (bac [high school diploma] and IUT); Currently
I am a technician at "France Telecom".
CHESS THEORY :
And now we come naturally to Chess!
Serge PICARD :
My father, Raymond, well-known in the "Champardennais" world chess,
had learn me very soon the moving of chess pieces, but it's only when
I was in the secondary school that I have really "mis les mains dans
l'échiquier" thanks to Denis Rouable, youth leader of the Saint-Dizier
Chess Club, who came in schools and have developped my desire to
play Chess.
CHESS THEORY :
Which was then the strongest moments of your chess career, I wish as
long as possible ?
Serge PICARD :
The best way is following the order of my photographs you publish here.
The first one is of june 2003, during the League Championship where I
have won the title. The second one is of august 2003; it was in
"accession". I was playing against the IM J.L. Roos and I have wom
with a Queen sacrifice and a checkmate in 14 moves (this first
"Accession"is a very beautiful souvenir where, with a rating of 1990
I have finished with a performance of 2322 and 5.5/11 after having
encountered 1 GM (Marcellin), 3 IM (1.5/3). Results : Loss : 3, win :
3, drawn : 5. Lastly the third one is of june 1999 (the last century)
: it was the League Championship I have also won.
CHESS THEORY :
Sincerly Serge it's an excellent result and I address you all my
congratulations ... I hope you'll go on this way...
Serge PICARD :
I hope too ... But the Club, the League : all this takes a lot of
time...
CHESS THEORY :
Certainly ! And must monopolize a great energy. Well! While we're on
the suject, talk now of the "CHAUMONT CHESS 2000"!
Serge PICARD :
Created by two enthusiast young players in 1990, the club have really
known a significant development with the creating of a "young work"
in 2000, allowing to structure courses, teams etc... Currently we
have 70 members, 5 teams entered in interclub competitions et 2 in
young interclub competitions.
The objective of our club was to permit any member to progress and at
this respect we're successful.
CHESS THEORY :
I think that, for you Serge, formation of young players, through the
practice of chess game, is quite important!
Serge PICARD :
You are right; any way the N2 young team is a visible result. Bisides
in individual results we may be proud of one's youg players because they
are very often mount to the podiums (4 titles on 10 in 2004), with a
3o place at the 2003 France Championship.
CHESS THEORY :
Do you agree said us equally some words about CHAMPAGNE-ARDENNE
League?
Serge PICARD :
Currently I am Regional Technical Director and Vice-president. The
League has strongly improved (3000 members, Reims in the TOP
16) thanks to little and great clubs having developed this passion.
There is always many things to do and the new CD, elected in
september, is giving himself some objectives concerning training
(youngs, referees, organizers, etc...)
CHESS THEORY :
But like you are a man wearing several hats, we go now speaking two
words about the "Championnat de France des Clubs, Trophée Michel Roos".
Serge PICARD :
Like I was playing by correspondence during the years 80, it's very
naturelly I have enrolled the club in this adventure. This kind of
competition permits at young players to work individually and then in
groups; but such an organization need many time and only a little
group rationally is able to follow this competition.
CHESS THEORY :
Serge, I have now to thank you, for this pleasant talk, and to wish
you good luck for all your enterprises!... Good luck to you, to the
dynamic Chess Club "CHAUMONT - CHESS 2000" and to the valiant
"LIGUE CHAMPAGNE-ARDENNE" ! ...
And like we must end with Chess, can you now propose us the game which
as given you the greatest satisfaction... And if it'll stay a single
it'll be precisely this one !?
Serge PICARD :
It's not evident at all to choose among 30 years devoted to chess.
My biggest sensation like a player was against Victor Korchnoi in
Courchevel (1979), because I have kept its Queen in a simultaneous
exhibition, but he had seen very far and naturally I have lost.
if it stay a single, I choose my game against the IM J.L. Roos in
Accession 2003, because the Queen sacrifice allow me to have many
congratulations from IM and GM; I was actually very touched (more,
J.L. Roos is a nice player).
Serge PICARD vs JL ROOS :
